The Name

We are often asked about the name Arras and what it means.

Arras means two things to us;

Arras is a town in Northern France, famous in the 14th and 15th century for its textiles, specifically its tapestries. Today tapestries are often referred to as Arras regardless of where they are made. Here at Arras Services we believe that like a tapestry, projects are typically “a colourful and complicated situation, that is made up of many different threads“. Projects are the sum of many interwoven elements, some unique, but all having constraits, risks and ultimately consisting of much more than just technology.

Arras is also famous for its WW1 battlefields. Projects which are managed incorrectly can also be likened to battlefields but really we prefer the first definition of our name, it sounds just that little bit more positive.
